President
Sam Sussman, President Physicians Canada, has more than twenty-five years of senior level experience in healthcare administration, working within Canada as well as internationally.

Between 1972 and 1997, Dr. Sussman served as Director of Social Services / Social Work for three major psychiatric hospitals in Ontario (Whitby, London and St. Thomas).

Dr. Sussman has also been affiliated with the University of Western Ontario since 1983 as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine. He is the author of four books related to mental health and numerous scholarly publications. A popular public speaker, Dr. Sussman has made presentations at meetings of numerous professional associations including the International Association of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Services, the Ontario Association of Social Workers, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Canadian Psychiatric Association and the Ontario Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Sussman is an active volunteer, serving both locally and globally. He has been on the Board of Directors for many organizations including the Richmond Fellowship International, the Alumni Association of the University of Loughborough. the University of Western Ontario Alumni Association, the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, the Schizophrenia Association of Canada, Homes Unlimited, the United Way of London, and the London Intercommunity Health Center.

In 1995 Dr. Sussman founded the S. Sussman , J. Deadman Archival Centre at London Psychiatric Hospital. The archive, serving as a source of information for scholars and offering public lectures to community groups, provides an international perspective on the history of psychiatry.

Dr. Sussman holds a BA degree from Concordia University, an MSW from the University of Manitoba, a Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario, and a Ph.D. in social sciences from Loughborough University (U.K.). Dr. Sussman was made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland in 2000.
